Learning Outcomes:

Copy Me is a great game for children who enjoy leading a group, performing, and singing along to the song. Some children in the group may need more support and encouragement to be the leader. It is a lovely way to help children use body clues to interact positively with others and have fun with using appropriate behaviour. Copy Me encourages children to learn that we can look to others around us and use the clues to help us understand what is positive behaviour or the positive thing to do in a situation. For example, when we go into group time and everyone is sitting down listening to the educator, we need to use those body clues from others to see that it would be best for us to also sit down and listen, instead of running around and disturbing the group.

How to Play...

To play Copy Me, teach the children the new words to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (see below). You then lead the group in a sequence or action…….. (Content withheld).

No equipment is required to complete this activity. However, you may include the use of musical instruments, like tapping sticks.

Extension Activities

It is important to enrich the learning of students through additional questions, probing them for deeper information, and having an opportunity for reflection. Some children may find it difficult to be extended in this area, however, will benefit from other’s answers to the questions. For example: What action/pattern did you enjoy? Which action did you find easy/difficult to follow? What clue did [child's name] use for their action? Why do you think it might be good for us to be able to copy what others are doing? For example, if you come into our room and all of the children are sitting quietly listening to the teacher, would it be right to do the same thing or something different than the other children? Why?
